Periodontology

The importance of oral hygiene is becoming a cliché; although, by ensuring oral hygiene, the necessity of various serious dental treatments could be avoided.

Why is periodontology important?

Inflammation caused by bacteria leads to gingival recession. The source of these bacteria are plaques and tartars, which can be caused by improper brushing techniques.

Gingival recession is an inflammatory condition of the gums that can be associated with tartar formation. Consequential symptoms include bleeding gums and unpleasant breath. An untreated condition leads to atrophy of the supporting tissues and subsequent loosening of the teeth.

Periodontal diseases are treatable! Periodontology is a special branch of dentistry that treats inflammatory diseases of the tissues surrounding the teeth; whether this inflammation is caused by bacteria, long-term medications or metabolic problems.
